Make Essex a Safer Place for Women and Young People: Lib Dems launch campaign for Essex PFCC
Cllr. Kieron Franks announced as
Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Candidate
The Liberal Democrats make women and young people’s safety the key focus of their campaign as they announce Cllr Kieron Franks as their candidate for the Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.
Kieron Franks, a Chelmsford City Councillor, will stand for election on the 2nd May this year for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner against the Conservative Party incumbent.
Cllr Franks said:
“Essex County Council’s own data shows people in Essex feel significantly less safe than England as a whole. In particular, it is a travesty that only 45% of women and less than 30% of people aged 18-25 feel safe in Essex after dark. Too many people feel that they aren’t listened to when they report things to the police and that nothing gets investigated when they report thefts and vandalism.
The Liberal Democrats already have a track record of making Essex safer for women, such as the creation of the pioneering Women’s Safety Charter set up by the Lib Dem-led Chelmsford City Council and I want the opportunity to build on initiatives like this across Essex.
Should I be elected, I will push for Essex Police to do more to tackle the crimes that affect people’s lives and wellbeing as well as working with partners to tackle the root causes of crime, such as insecure housing and poor support structures for our most vulnerable, so that less people turn to crime in the first place. The Liberal Democrats would also make sure that youth services are properly funded so that we can work with young people to set them on the right path”
